Viennese waltz

A UNESCO cultural heritage

The Dance Style Viennese Waltz – A True Classic!

It is part of UNESCO cultural heritage and is one of the most famous dances in the world: the Viennese Waltz. This elegant dance is one of the oldest social dances in Europe. Although this dance style was initially considered improper, more than 200 years ago people started dancing to waltz melodies at balls. During the Vienna Congress in 1814/1815, guests were entertained with numerous balls and dance events. The Viennese Waltz quickly found enthusiastic dancers. Vienna became the capital of the waltz. The incomparable music of Johann Strauss Father and Son ultimately fueled the passion for this dance style worldwide. The most famous piece is the "Blue Danube Waltz" by Johann Strauss Junior, a staple at every opera ball to this day. In dance competitions, the Viennese Waltz has been one of the most important standard dances for decades. Despite its long history, the lively Viennese Waltz has always maintained its popular character.
